ExperienceAs a principal player in major orchestras and a solo and chamber musician I have participated in literally hundreds of recordings with world-renowned musicians for major labels.
In my work as a musician I have conducted orchestras, directed ensembles and appeared as a soloist internationally. I hold a B.Mus from London University and have an in depth knowledge of music ranging from early music to the latest contemporary music. My experience as a top level performer and knowledge of the recording processes in combination with a sound academic knowledge gives me a particular edge in my skills as a producer. The technique of creating a good recording is completely different from a live performance and I have experience from both sides of the microphone. |
TechniqueWhere possible I like to use longer takes to retain a sense of a live performance that grows organically and to maintain a good workflow.
Psychology is also an important factor. I know from my own experience as a performer that getting a good result is dependent on a relaxed focus. Performers are often worried that they lose control themselves after the recording sessions. The editing process can be a collaborative one if desired to ensure everyone is happy. The advantage of handling all the stages of the process myself, (recording engineer, producer, editor and mastering), is that I, and the client, have total control of the final result. |
